WHAT DID YOU DO ON OCT 27TH?
October 27th was the 8th Annual Fright Night Boxing Show/#33 for the Saturday Night Boxing series!!! It was our biggest show yet! There were in total 15 bouts and 6 members of the Griffins’ Amateur Team demonstrated their incredible skills. The team’s next competition is coming up in Victoria on November 17th, but looking forward to #34 of the Saturday Night Boxing series on February 23rd, 2013!. MEET COACH STEVE AND COACH MISHA
Meet Coach Steve. Has been working at Griffins forever! He actually started at Griffins by working at the Front Desk…and the rest is history! Not only does he coach the Boxfit and Tech classes, he is also a coach of the Amateur Team. Meet Coach Misha: Coach of Boxfit, Tech classes, a personal trainer, and is a member of Griffins’ Amateur Team. Because he was in the top 5% of the Seattle Tough Mudder, he qualifies for the World Tough Mudder in New Jersey. Also, he is a big fan of UK show Top Gear (yay!) and of Manchester United (double yay!)!
BOXING BABES IN THE NEWS
These “Boxing Babes” are very excited to have their moms starting Boxing Babes on November 7th for it’s 2nd session! This time their moms will be hitting the heavy bags on Wednesday + Friday @ 10:40am. Also recently, Boxing Canada has been following Boxing Babes from the start and have been mentioning it to the world! HALLOWEEN SKELETON CONTEST DROVE SOME PEOPLE “BATTY”
While decorating the gym for Halloween, we noticed that there were a lot of skeleton decorations in the ol’ décor-box. We wondered how many skeletons do we have? Then the idea to have skeleton counting contest was born. We had a lot of entries…with a lot of different numbers…but in the end there were 20, and Charli Johnson won a pair of hand targets! Congrats Charli!!
KAILEIGH THE NOVEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Kaileigh attends the Youth Tech class and she’s a true Champ!! Recently she achieved Green Gloves in the Glove System®…with stitches in her leg!!

Since the end of May 2012!

Recently acquiring Green Gloves!!!

There are so many fun drills with Hand Targets!
5. What advice can you give someone thinking of joining?
No Leaning in the Gym!!!! (I think there maybe 20 push-ups for that?)
STRAIGHT BODY PUNCHING by Coach Misha
The Purpose: There are 2 purposes for Straight body punches: the first is the pay-off in the later rounds. In the beginning rounds, if you can land effective body punches, this in turn will make your opponent tired and slow for later rounds, known as “taking away their legs”…want to read more? CELEBRITY IN DA GYM!!
If you were at Griffins early in October, you might have been sharing a heavy bag with a famous musician. Tony Garnier, Bob Dylan’s long time bassist and is a US amateur boxer, was recommended to train at Griffins before their concert at Rogers Arena. He now has a Griffins T-Shirt, and fingers crossed that it will appear on stage during their North American tour!
